Perhaps this is because scientific thinking has taken over our lives. In some cases, being unable to believe the incredible just seems impossible. Because of our scientific thinking, we are unable to comprehend something that doesn't seem possible. Another reason is we hide behond our facts. Afraid of the unknown, as are many others, we have to find logic. If we are unable to find any, we think of this are "Fairy Tales".
I think we are such a pragmatic society that we tend to believe only what we see. I find it interesting that so many hispanic authors use the concept of "magic realism" -- everyday events that somehow become magical. I wonder if this is indicative of a different life view and philosophy? The book sounds great -- I'll have to put it on my list.

Kristiana,
What a thought provoking comment. Your comment alone makes me want to read the book. Did you enjoy it?
Yes, I have really enjoyed this book. It would have to be one of my favorites so far.
